Blessings of the Waters

Water takes on many shapes and forms, but it also shapes the ways in which we live our lives. Blessings of the Waters delves into the deep and evolving relationships that the community shares with the waters of Washington State. From the Cascades Mountains to the shores of the Puget Sound, water is the connector between residents, tribes, farmers, fishers, municipalities, industries, agriculture and more. This project encompasses those with nature’s flora and fauna as well as the land itself providing abundance and beauty to the region.

Deeply informed by my 40 years working in marine shipping and by countless hikes along the streams, lakes, waterfalls, and snowfields that riddle the Pacific Northwest, this work highlights the increasing pressure on water. Displaying images of water in a plethora of settings, accompanied by text describing the relationship of water, this project will elaborate on what water means for our community, how it is fluctuating and why it matters. With awareness of our interconnectedness, we can support water’s well-being to benefit all our community members for generations to come.
